Last Weeks Results

Catcher is always a fascinating position in Showdown. Catcher, more than any other defensive position, requires attention to detail to the defensive score. The reason is that catcher often defends his position alone. The most common use of catching defense is the steal. This means how fast the set, and how fast the best players in the set are is very important. 2013 is the slowest set we have had in a while. 2011 was an insanely fast set. So I was intrigued what players thought was an acceptable catching arm.

Catching arms range from 2 to 9 in the 2013 set. That was the range for the pole. I was shocked that of 13 votes only 1 was for the max score of 9. The most common answer was C+5 with four votes. C+4 and C+8 both had three. This showed me that many players are ok with finding a hitter at catcher. There are some good options that have not been revealed because they are utility. The other thing that this showed is that you can get catchers very late in drafts.
