Card of the Week - 6/25/14

MLBShowdownGuru likes to point out that every card has value.  This week's Card of the Week may have value, but it is nearly impossible to see.  Because this player was American League Player of the Week, that is why he was selected as CotW...

...2013 J.D. Martinez.  Taking a look at this card, there is a lot to be turned off by.  An on-base 6, average speed (15), doesn't reach base until a 7, and only one homer.  But looking more closely, we can see a few ways that this card can be helpful.  First off, for only 30 points, you can get tremendous price saving for a starting LF/RF +1, or save even more as a bench player.  Secondly, if he gets the advantage, he singles earlier than many hittters.  Plus, I think that the image on this card is pretty cool with the  orange jersey on the dark blue background.

So congratulations, J.D. Martinez, on being selected player of the week and for being selected for the CotW.
