Gotta love the punts, especially when they allow you to have guys like Verlander or Bautista on your team. Can't agree more with Dr. Juice, Pudge is the way to go. There is a reason I snagged him so high in the mock draft. Kills the other guy's ground game. Considering the power and point value of the other cards, I have to agree that in a 5,000 pt cap league, the 50 point Pudge is the best.
I completely love punt players. Nothin better than finding value for someone who only takes up a small amount of your points. i'm pretty much feeling the exact same way as Juice, although i love omar vizquel over everyone. Still, Pudge could be a must have at catcher in a 5,000 pt. league. Great list
Eddie, I forgot to mention the 2001 Pudge, which was a 530pt 9 17-20 homer speed B with a 9 arm and a monster chart. Basically can't go wrong with that card either. Top 5 catchers of all time for Showdown have to be Pudge 2001, Napoli 2011, Mauer 2009, Piazza 2000, and then either the Pudge 2000 or 2011 version. But I'm probably forgetting someone, haha.
Nelson, I would likely put Vizquel 2 or 3, I do like Mark Ellis a lot.
Dr. Juice-yes, that 2001 Pudge is nasty, would be a 3 or 4 hitters for majority of teams in the league today and even some back then in the steroid era. Kind of crazy when you consider the fact I picked Pudge and Napoli in the mock. Worked out okay, but shows you a little bit of my draft rust, because I probably only needed one.
