#ShotsFriday: Stadium Cards

Everybody consider yourselves warned. @Tomwyliehart, owner of our longest consecutive shot streak with 8 is at it again. He has his second shot getting Miguel Cabrera his first and @Tomwyliehart’s his second. I would also like to mention that @KyleJohnson1127  did get robbed as shown here http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=27624657. Hope everyone is able to send in their picks today and enjoy this Friday with some long balls and some work appropriate beverages.

We just finished our 20 managers for our first strategy card set last week. We no showing off our first 5 stadium cards for you guys to enjoy. An interesting part of baseball is that of the 4 major American sports it is the only one that does not have a uniform playing surface. Many of us would like to see how Showdown could possibly incorporate this. The next question is how will they work?

Here are we suggest they be played under various strategy card play options.

1: Only the home team may play a stadium card
2: The home team may only have 1 name of a stadium in their deck or hand
3: In deck draw play style leagues may choose whether the home team starts with the stadium in play or they are drawn from the deck. Leagues must also declare a limit to stadiums per deck.
4: Stud leagues must decide if the stadium cards count against the home teams hand size or if it is a bonus for the home team.
5: Stadiums stay in play until a card removes they from play.

The Metrodome – First we thought we would show that we are not limiting our stadiums to those still being played. Those who have watched enough games in the Metrodome will tell you that it is amazing how many routine fly balls fall to the turf. For that reason obviously any home team is going to want to only carry outfielders with at least +1 fielding. You can’t control if the opponent has a +0 fielder. If he does there is a good chance you will turn 1 to 2 balls a series into something resembling a single. Turning outs into on-base is a big deal no matter how it happens.

Wrigley Field- What do we point out about the historic Wrigley Field? Do we point out the ivy which has caused so many great memories? Do we point out the amazingly faithful fans? We decided to go with another classic, the singing of take me out to the ball game. Some are good, others are bad, but it is always something to look forward to. A single discard is not really game changing but it is consistent and fun enough.

Miller Park- The Brewers home has many of its own fun quirks. Watching Bernie Brewer come down the slide after a homer would be a fun quirk. We choose to give some credit to the world famous sausage race. If you had Randel Simon you should automatically win but we can add that in later. It has the same general idea as Wrigley Field except you draw on a win instead of discard on a lose.

Angel’s Stadium- Many us remember this cute little critter during that magical World Series run. I may punch a player who player Showdown with a pair of thunder sticks. I do like the idea of rewarding a player who scores a run late. How about being down by a few runs and you manufacture 1 early to help get a big card back for the 9th. Extra innings battles can allow for re-loading. You can even take the lead as the away team and then draw a defensive card.

Dodger Stadium-  I mean no disrespect to the Dodger’s fans by this one. I may even blame it on that awful traffic in LA but they are not known for being punctual. They are also not known for needing to see the last pitch. For that reason we think players should be limited to only 1 strategy card per at bat during that span. That means if you play an add to the swing you cannot reroll the result. It is the anti-stacking card.
