Last week, @JMoeller5 was correct by identifying the Oakland Athletics as the team to have a starting pitcher from their team start in the All-Star game in the same season they played in the World Series in back-to-back season. (Yes, the question did arise from my thinking about Jack Morris starting the AS game for the Twins in 1991, the same year he won WS MVP). Below you will find a list of all of the times that occurred:
2012: Verlander (Det) vs Cain (SF)
2001: Johnson (Ari) vs Clemens (NYY)
1991: Morris (Min) vs Glavine (Atl)
1990: Welch (Oak) vs Armstrong (Cin)
1989: Stewart (Oak) vs Reuschel (SF)
1986: Clemens (Bos) vs Gooden (NYM)
1960: Law (Pit) vs Ford (NYY)
1959: Wynn (CHW) vs Drysdale (LAD)
1958: Turley (NYY) vs Spahn (MIL)
1950: Raschi (NYY) vs Roberts (PHI)
1942: Chandler (NYY) vs Cooper (STL)
1939: Ruffing (NYY) vs Derringer (CIN)
This week's question is directly related to the 2015 Hall of Fame class.
This year, Craig Biggio will enter the Hall of Fame along with pitchers Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and John Smoltz. Biggio faced each of those pitchers at least 15 times in his career. He hit a total of two home runs off of those pitchers (both off of Smoltz). He also totaled 9 doubles off of these pitchers. Order these three pitchers in order of the number of doubles given up to Craig Biggio (from highest to lowest) in his career.
1) All questions will be baseball questions, sometimes relating directly to MLB Showdown, but not always.
2) While it is impossible to regulate this, please refrain from using an internet search engine to find the answer. If you know it, congratulations! If you have a fairly educated guess, give it a shot. We ask for your honesty in following this guideline.
3) Twitter answers must include the hashtag #TriviaThursday and be sent to me @RokTikiTiki in order to be counted. Those sent to @MLBShowdownGuru do not count.
4) If no correct guess is made by the following Wednesday at noon ET, there will be no winner for that week. A hint will be added on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday until there is a correct guess or the Wednesday deadline is reached.
Current Standings:
@JMoeller5 - 5
@kris_barnes7 - 3
@Averey25 - 2

We only got one guess yesterday, and it was incorrect. That is your hint for today (as there are only six possible outcomes ordering three people):
ReplyDelete"@RokTikiTiki #TriviaThursday John Smoltz, Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez is the order I have them in with Smoltz giving up the most."
Here is hint number 2: John Smoltz did NOT give up the most doubles to Craig Biggio of the three pitchers.
ReplyDeleteFinal hint: Johnson-Smoltz-Martinez is not correct, either...that leaves three possible combinations.
