MLB Showdown 2014: Designated Hitters

Welcome to one of my favorite changes we have made from the 2000-2001 sets. The severely discounted Designated Hitters allow for leagues to be very customizable. Leagues that want more hitting can go AL rules and have discounted DH’s. NL leagues have cheap pinch hitters. You can go original rules and have them play 1B with -2 fielding (or even more severe if you wish).

Victor Martinez is the best option. He is the only 10, with 18-20 HR, 16-17 2B, 1-2
Out(FB) for 300 points with speed C(8). He is dead slow but he gets on base and he can hit home runs. Power players will love him and if he can start he is a first round pick. The second best choice for power players is David Ortiz as a 9, 17-20 HR, 15-16 2B with speed C(8) for 250 points.  Adam Dunn will bat lower in the order while the other two will bat 4-5, Dunn is more of a 6-7 hitter. If you can steal some length he will do great. He is a 8, 17-20 HR, 16 2B with speed C(9) for 170 points.

Speed players will only really be interested in David Dejesus as a 8, 19-20 HR, 16-18 2B with speed B(15) for 140 points. Good deal but with a 10 as his lowest single he isn’t great except he is cheap.

Moneyball and pingers will lover everyone with 8 OB or higher.

All these guys are great pinch hitters.
