Card of the Week - 8/13/14

I want to start off this week by reminding everyone that I am a Twins fan first and foremost.  It has been a rough couple of years, but there is hope for us in our minor league system with our farm system rated first by several publications.  To make room for that future, we had to part ways with some of our (recent) past.  So I am going to highlight two cards this week, two players who have recently been traded via waivers to playoff contenders.

I'm sorry Dodger fans, but you are getting the best starting pitcher from the Twins rotation in 2013.  Yes, their best starter produced this whopping 170 pt. card.  Now that's not to say that nobody will draft Kevin Correia in a 2013 league.  He would make an alright 4th starter as he gets seven ground balls on his chart.  But for being the most consistent starter for a team for an entire season (and he has been even worse this year), he leaves a lot to be desired.

The Royals are getting a card with the same point value from last year, but a player with more potential to help his team.  Josh Willingham had a down year, but a year that is showing that he is getting older.  He has improved upon last year's card by increasing both his OBP and SLG stats, so he has potential to help the Royals in giving outfielders an off day or some pinch-hit pop off the bench.  His high walks and lack of power probably won't get him drafted, but he could be a serviceable bench player for someone's Showdown team.

Do either of these waiver trades excite anyone?  Who got the best deal here?  Comment below or send me a tweet, @RokTikiTiki
Also, don't forget to send me recommendations for Card of the Week!
