Last
week we posted 4 “flawed” players and asked you guys to say which was the most
playable. This is an interesting question that basically which flaws are least
detrimental. The four players were Ian Desmond. His flaw is that he costs more
than 250 points for an 8 with SS+1. He has speed and some power by shortstop
standards. At 310 points his question “is he worth it?” JJ Hardy like Desmond
costs too much for a 220 point 6. He also has power with 17-20 HR. He also
supplies a SS+5. That is a lot of points to pay for a 6-7-8 hitter. Elvis
Andrus is a 7 with speed A(23) for 130 points. His SS+3 is average but has no
homer and basically a weak chart all around. Pete Kozma has the advantage of
being 20 points and having SS+4. His flaw is the worst (or tied for worst)
offensive player at shortstop.
The
clear winner was Andrus when I last checked. He got 7 of the 12 votes (Desmond
3, Hardy 2, Kozma 0). It appears many of our fans believe the mantra that “speed
doesn’t go through slumps”. His 7 on-base limits him to 6-7-8 in the line-up.
The idea that he can steal bases with his 23 speed is a great benefit. In a
pure league he has more valuable. In stud and draw leagues he will burn cards.
Burning cards and relying on a bad hitter to drive him in is rough. He will
likely be seen in many of your leagues.
