Last Week's Results
I must
admit I was surprised by the results of last week’s poll (thus far). Of the 11
votes cast there was a split between Pedroia as a lead-off man (no surprise)
and Aaron Hill as a number 6 hitter in a line up. The surprise none winners
include Darwin Barney and his 10 point 2B+5 self, taking 2 votes. The idea of
punting at second base only makes sense with Barney but I did not think he
would garner 2 votes. Scutaro has a cult following among our pinger players so
his 1 vote was not shocking. I was shocked Robinson Cano only got 1 vote. My
guess is players would ether bat him third or don’t like the 1-5 out for a guy
who needs to be driving people in with hits.
Dustin
Pedroia has a lot for players to like. For one he has a little F.P. Santangello
in him as a 10, speed A who cannot homer. Though I argue that Pedroia is at a
more important defensive position and his 2B+5 opens a lot of doors (Hanley
Ramirez as SS). This allows for a speed line-up with an exciting 3 hitter who
many players will be scared of because he only has SS+2. Back to Pedroia, I
still likely take Santangello in a draft where both are available but he is a
solid pick. The question is can you get him in the second round of a league of
any size?
Hill was
the big shock to me. I thought if anything Scutaro might get 3 votes. It seems
his 2B+4 and pinger qualities make him very attractive. If you do have 280
points for a 6 hitter you are doing very well for yourself. He will drive some
people in with a single starting at 10. He also sports doubles from 17-19 which
puts him in scoring position. His 1-5 out may be a pain for players hoping he
just gets to first base and keeps the conveyer belt rolling.
