MLB Showdown 2013: Centerfield 300+ Points
Since
2011 Centerfield has been a can’t miss position for our sets. Andrew McCutchen won
his first MVP, carrying a Pirates team to the playoffs. He hit .317 with 21
homers, 5 triples, and 38 doubles while stealing 27 bases. He was only out down
by the back to back AL MVP runner-up Mike Trout who his 27 homers, 9 triples,
39 doubles and stole 33 bases. Shin-Soo Choo showed the great OB again walking
112 times.
I have
talked to a few power players already who have been playing Mike Trout on their
teams. Trout is technically the best power hitter at centerfield. My issue with
Trout is that eats up so much of your cap that it is difficult to put real
power hitters around him. If you are spending +600 points for Trout and want to
hit homers why not take Cabrera who has an additional homer on his chart and is
an 11 OB. Any team with Trout is going to be more of a hybrid. I much prefer Carlos
Gomez as an 8, 18-20 HR, 15-17 3B, 13-14 2B, 11-12 1B+ with speed A(22) for 370
points. I am using my top 3 pick for Cabrera or Davis if I am playing power.
Pingers
again don’t like +300 point players but they may like Dexter Fowler. He is a 9,
20 HR, 19 3B, 18 2B, 17 1B+ for 300 points as a speed A(21) CF+2 LF/RF+1. He
can lead-off and give some run creating options. Money Ballers will actually
like Shin-Soo over McCutchen. Choo is a 10, 20 HR, 17-19 2B with speed A(20)
for 450 points. Moneyballers likely won’t appreciate the upgrade to McCutchen.
McCutchen is playable and has small
upgrades over Choo for 20 more points. He is a 10, 20 HR, 19 3B, 16-18 2B CF+3
with speed A(21). Smallballers will like him as a 3 hitter for cheap. He can
drive in and score runs himself. Of course Trout is a complete upgrade as a 10,
19-20 HR, 17-18 3B, 14-16 2B, 12-13 1B+ CF+3 speed A(22) for 610 points. Also
Fowler is a good option here.
Obviously not a lot of bench
players until next week.
