MLB Showdown 2011: Corner Outfield

Corner outfield has been a transition position over the last 5 years. The dinosaurs who lumber in the outfield so they can swing the lumber in the box are near extinct. The league MVP put himself in the astrick club while clubbing a 33/33 season. Let me come out and say MLB showdown does not support the use of substances that MLB and Surgeon General do not deem appropriate. That being said, showdown has always been a fan of pure statistics. The MVP compiled plenty of those. Carlos Beltran was a hot commodity by a playoff contender for the second time. The giants were not as fortunate as the Astros were. Nelly Cruz had a fantastic play off run. Jayson Heyward had a sizable sophmore slump. Carl Crawford had an amazingly bad year for his new team. The potential is out there in the future for Mike Stanton, LoMo, Desmond Jennings, Brennan Boesch and other young players is there. Will they up the standard in 2012? time will tell.

MLB Showdown #Shotsfriday
I have to say we had a pretty eventful #Shotsfriday last week. Myself and the MLB Showdown Connoisseur, @kylevanpelt went to the Braves vs Phillies game. It was the opening day of the Olympics so we went to the very same place where Michael Johnson wore his shiny gold shoes. It is now known as Turner Field. It was the Olympic Track for the 1996 Olympics. All that to say in the 5th inning as I recall the Braves do a promotion called Moe's home run inning. Kyle had picked Brian McCann based information he had gathered from his wife. Long story short, McCann hit a home run on #Shotsfriday for @kylevanpelt during Moe's home run inning. So Kyle gets a tally and I got a burrito. Our favorite Texan @LU_TX12 did a smart thing and picked a player our leader @Quicksand3 picked. Both picked Curtis Granderson. @IamPulseivity both listened to a young lady and followed out leader with Granderson. @Quicksand3 has a monster lead on the twitter board with 4. Granderson went from dog house to penthouse this week taking the Player-board lead with 3. @LU_TX12 got his first but he assures me "My guys play for me". Our local celebrity, "The Creator", @TomWyliehart may not be over his MLB Showdown hill yet. He picked Josh Willingham. That would be number 1 for both. Big week for out #Shotsfriday players. Remember to send in your pick for today using the Twitter #Shotsfriday before the game starts. Now on to business.

Time Machine Center Field

Carl Everett 00. There are 2 centerfielders who dominated the early showdown landscape. One player who produced 3 obscene cards was Carl Everett. In 1999 Everett would have 25 homers, 27 steals and bat .325. Everett would make a 9, speed A, 540 point, 18-20 HR, 15-17 2B, 13-14 1B+. He was a great all-around player with a +2 OF defense. It seemed as if all his stats managed to produce just enough to get him to the next level. This year he actually appeared worthy of his speed A as well.

MLB Showdown 2011: Centerfield

Wow, Let me just start with wow. A 40/39 season from Kemp which could arguably been an MVP season. Nice to see him put together a season worthy of his 5 tool talent. Jacoby Ellsbury had a 33/39 season with an unexpected power surge. He gambled often on big swings and won big. Curtis Granderson also gambled often and also won often. 41/25 season. Curtis played a game we like to call “First base is hot lava”. He seemed to only touch it while heading to second. Andrew McCutchen punched, kicked and clawed to keep the Pirates in the hunt. The Flying Hawiian, Shane Victorino also seemed to live in scoring position. Thank goodness Adam Jones and BJ Upton both had off years because I am not sure any none first base position could handle that much awesomeness in one year. By the way Josh Hamilton played center field also this year.
