#Shots Friday

Today is both an exciting and sad day in the Showdown community as it marks the final #ShotsFriday of the 2014 baseball season. At one time or another this season, many of us have experienced the sweet taste of the long ball whenever our picks have gone deep. Other times, we have felt deep disappointment, especially when our picks have hit doubles off the wall or come up short at the warning track. Yes, this season in the words of Ron Burgundy has been a “glass case of emotion.”  Speaking of emotion, did anyone see Russell Martin’s epic go-ahead shot last Friday? Never seen the Pittsburgh faithful so pumped for a regular season home run. Unfortunately, no one picked the Pirates’ catcher for #ShotsFriday, nor did anyone else have a successful pick. Therefore, the leaderboard stays the same as last week. Barring some big fireworks tonight from other players, it looks as if the Creator @TomWyliehart will bring home the 2014 championship and win himself a free 2014 color set. Second place will win a free 2014 black and white set and third place will be awarded 5 holo David Cone and 5 holo Greg Maddux cards from the original 2000 MLB Showdown set. Enjoy your favorite work appropriate beverage and be sure to submit your picks via Twitter to @BucNforthecard with #ShotsFriday before the games. To finish this season off with a bang, I am granting everyone 1 bonus pick, so be sure to send me 2 names. May you roll high tonight and your picks #playforthecard!

#ShotsFriday: Introducing @BucNforthecard

Hi all, I’m Eddie Melville, otherwise known as @BucNforthecard and I’m excited to take over the blogging best tradition we have going around here #ShotsFriday. It is my hope to continue the excellence @MLBShowdownGuru began and provide you with high quality updates. With that said, let’s cut to the chase...we are down to the final 2 Fridays of the season! Time to climb the standings is running out.  @TomWyliehart remains atop the mountain with 11 shots and we’d expect nothing less from the 2012 champ to make smart picks down the stretch. @Roktikitiki5 sits in at 2nd with 10 shots and threatens the original card creator with his own slick card-making skills.  @Orioles881 rounds out the top 3 with 9 shots, but is the hottest in the top 3 with three shots coming since August 1st. Yours truly @BucNforthecard is in 4th with a not-so-distant 8 shots and is banking on some ‘homer’ picks to come through big in the next 2 weeks. With @MLBShowdownguru largely occupied the past few weeks, please tweet your end of the season picks to me at @BucNforthecard with the standard #ShotsFriday hashtag before the games on Friday. If I’m reading the updated list correctly, no one’s pick went deep last Friday, meaning everyone has the standard 1 pick this week. Soak in these last 2 weeks as they’ll go quick and may the odds be ever in your favor to enjoy some fist-pumping home run action.

We had a first this past week for #Shotsfriday. @Quicksand3 Went from the dog house to the pent house in one day. His pick of Mark Teixeira yielded 2 homers making him the first player and picker to get a double shot. He is now the season leader with 2, meaning everyone else better not get stuck in the quicksand or he may run away with this years race. Tex with the pair leads the player-board as well with 2 now. He wasn't the only person to have some fist pumping. The biggest "homer",  in our community, @Eddiezone44 got a homer from his home town boy Pedro Alvarez. So we all got to enjoy a ride into the Eddie-zone this week. Remember to make your predictions for who will homer on #ShotsFriday on twitter using the hash tag. Let us root guys on to #playforthecard.

MLB Showdown Shots Friday

Back to back in the bad way for everyone here playing for Shots Friday. Second week of no long balls. The pick that should have been made 2 weeks ago... AJ Pierzynski. If someone had picked him they would be dominating with 3 home runs, had 2 picks last week and still have the White Sox catcher this week for free. You live you learn. Still a 3 way tie atop the Twitter-board and Player-board. Hopefully that gets broken today. I am rooting for someone to go from 0 to 2 in one night. I am predicting someone else getting a double shot. Hopefully the All-Star break served our power players well. Now lets get to the meat of the matter.

MLB Showdown Shots Friday: Star Cards

I have horrible news for everyone. Not one person brought any fist pumping joy to my heart last Friday. David Ortiz could not earn 400 fist pumps for his 400th career long ball. Joey Bats who is like a son to me, atleast on Fridays, couldn't find the seats. Robinson Cano I feel like homered on every other day. No one could pick a winner for me. No one saw Desmond Jennings hitting 2 home runs. or a pair of home runs from AJ Pierzynski in New York. The Twitter-board remains tied with a 3 way tie for first with 1. The Player-board also has a log jam with three players with 1. Let us celebrate Independence Week by finishing off the extra hot dogs and potatoe salad in the fridge and pick some players who really can put up a firework show. If you want to play for Shots Friday use the Twitter #Shotsfriday or just send your pick to me @mlbshowdownguru . Alright enough about that let us get to the meat of the matter.

MLB Showdown 2012 Shots Friday

Thank you everyone who choose to join us for our favorite tradition around here, Shots Friday. First things first. A look at the leaderboard. @markrom3 and Jay Bruce have 1 thanks to an inside-the-parker 2 weeks ago. @kylevanpelt also on the board with Adam Dunn's long ball into the Los Angles sky vs Clayton Kershaw. This past week @ruffridennole put himself on the board along with Joey Bats, Jose Bautista. Now let us see some fist pumping action for the efforts. Make sure you send in your predictions for Shots Friday, for which MLB player will hit a home rune, so we all can enjoy some fist pumping #mlbshowdown or #shotsfriday.
