I am going to take a look at two cards of the same player, the hottest hitting player in the game right now.

Card of the Week - 5/13/15
Last year, we all missed out on seeing what Jose Iglesias could do. We have gotten a glimpse already this season, we can only hope that he can keep going at this pace (as long as the Tigers as a team crumble and fall....that is the Twins fan talking). So for the card of the week, I thought we would look at Iglesias from two years ago.

Card of the Week - 5/6/15
This week's card of the week is another odd card. It has a lot of downside to it for a Control 6, 16+ pitcher. But it is because it is such an interesting card that I chose it for this week's CotW.

Card of the Week - 4/29/15
So far this season, I have gone with cards from the 2014 set for Card of the Week. This week, I want to mix it up and go old school. This week's card of the week has always been a mystery to me. He played for 9 teams in 9 years. He never played more than 94 games in a single season. He had a career OBP of .333. Yet in 2001, he had this gem of a card:

Card of the Week - 4/22/15
Nobody in MLB has been mashing more than this week's Card of the Week.. He has been hitting so well, I made him my first cutout of the 2015 set (of course, the new Sunday home alternate uniforms was the primary reason):

Card of the Week - 4/15/15
Welcome, Tax Day! While you only come once a year, you are on (some of) our minds for much longer...
Since some of you had to pay in taxes this year and didn't get a refund, here is an extra Card of the Week this week:

Card of the Week - 4/8/15
Baseball season is back! I spent almost all day on Monday watching baseball, from the Twins @ Tigers, to the Angels @ Mariners, saw Jimmy Rollins give the Dodgers the lead late....it was just an exciting day overall.
One of the players of the day for Opening Day was one of the players who switched teams in the offseason. He had a great day for his new team, going 3-3 with 3 XBH (2 doubles, 1 triple) and two RBI. And that player is...

Card of the Week - 10/15/14
I've been having some fun the last couple of CotW posts reminiscing about the original sets. A couple of weeks ago, I posted about Konerko and Jeter, both of whom have retired, but will have a card in the upcoming set that we are currently in the process of completing. That got me to thinking about the players who had a card in the original 2000 MLB Showdown set from Wizards of the Coast who will also have a card in our 2014 set (who aren't named Jeter or Konerko). Those players are:

Card of the Week - 10/1/14
Having MLB.TV allowed me to watch back the Zimmermann no-hitter on Monday (no baseball, gotta watch something). I was shocked to see F.P. Santangelo doing the TV broadcast. It brought me back to the good 'ol 2000 showdown set. It got me thinking about who else might be out there from the original 2000-2001 sets who has found a new career in broadcasting. I was shocked at how many I found, but I was also able to compile an 'All-MLB-Showdown-2000-2001-Players-Now-In--Broadcasting' team. And here it is:

Card of the Week - 9/24/14
I know that I have missed a few weeks, but life has been busy. I didn't even really realize that it was Wednesday the last two weeks and didn't want to post on Thursday, that just seemed wrong....
Anyway, there are two cards that I want to highlight this week, and they are both from the original WOTC cards. I am highlighting them because this Sunday will be the last game played for two players who have been the face of their respective franchises for the past 10+ years.

Card of the Week - 8/20/14
Often times in baseball, a team's season can hinge on a single player. If that player is playing well, then they are in contention. If that player gets hurt, then they may fall out of contention. That appears to be the tale of the season for the favorite team one of the mlbshowdowncards.blogspot.com team members. That team member is @BucNforTheCard, and his team is the Pittsburgh Pirates (if you couldn't tell, just check his Twitter page). The player in question for those Pirates is...

Card of the Week - 8/13/14
I want to start off this week by reminding everyone that I am a Twins fan first and foremost. It has been a rough couple of years, but there is hope for us in our minor league system with our farm system rated first by several publications. To make room for that future, we had to part ways with some of our (recent) past. So I am going to highlight two cards this week, two players who have recently been traded via waivers to playoff contenders.

Card of the Week - 8/6/14
Going into the week, I have ideas for what I am going to do with the card of the week, but I never decide until I actually sit down and start typing something out. It all depends upon what has happened in the past week and what I feel would make for a good card to highlight. I had initially planned on talking about some of the players who were traded at last week's non-waiver deadline, but instead I wanted to highlight a card that highlights this players strengths and weaknesses more than any other card from the 2013 set. And that card is...

Card of the Week - 7/30/14
With the non-waiver trade deadline tomorrow, I am intrigued by some of the trades being discussed. Is Tulowitzki on the move? Where is David Price going to end up? Is your favorite team buying or selling?
I am very intrigued by the teams looking to 'rent' players for the final 1½-2 months as part of a playoff push. We saw the Pirates make trades for Justin Morneau and Marlon Byrd last year. Jon Lester looks to be on the move with the possibility of re-signing with the Red Sox in the off-season. But one of the greatest non-waiver trade deadline moves of all time was for this week's card of the week,...

Card of the Week - 7/23/14
I had planned on a different card for the Card of the Week this week, but after seeing the events of the past 24 hours unfold, I had to change my mind.
In the first big trade leading up to the deadline, the Yankees traded away their best player from the month of April (a player who faded since then and had been demoted) Yangervis Solarte for a player who had once been the future of the Padres franchise,...

Card of the Week - 7/16/14
I am glad that we had an exciting All-Star game/weekend up here in Minnesota. I wasn't able to attend the festivities, but I had friends who did and they had a blast!
One part of All-Star weekend that I never really got into was the Home Run Derby. But my friends who went said that it was so exciting and the whole crowd was into every fly ball and it was just an exciting time. Because of that, I wanted to recognize the HRD winner...

Card of the Week - 6/25/14
MLBShowdownGuru likes to point out that every card has value. This week's Card of the Week may have value, but it is nearly impossible to see. Because this player was American League Player of the Week, that is why he was selected as CotW...

Card of the Week - 6/18/14
With the 460-500 point starting pitchers being highlighted this week, I wanted to pick one of them to for the card of the week. In my season that I am playing with Showdown cards, this pitcher has made three starts. In those starts, he has a record of 1-2. In the two losses, he has pitched 11 innings, given up 16 hits, 17 runs, 13 walks, and 3 HR, all while striking out 13. In the win, he gave up one hit (while walking 6) and struck out 12 in a complete game shutout. If you feel confident that you can get the advantage when using him, then you may want to take a chance on...

Card of the Week - 6/11/14
There are a few players whose cards I am looking forward to seeing in the 2014 set. Rookies like Jose Abreu and George Springer. The last Derek Jeter and Paul Konerko. One player whose card is going to be interesting in 2014 plays for my team, the Minnesota Twins. At last check, he was fourth in votes for his position, behind some of the biggest names at his position (although the case can be made that he has outperformed them all). That player is...

Card of the Week - 6/4/14
There are several exciting plays in baseball that are even more exciting due to their rarity; the inside-the-park home-run and the triple play are two examples. This past week, one player accomplished the same rare feat twice in the same series. And because of that, he earns this week's Card of the Week honors. And that honor goes to...
