Shortstop Career Charted

The late 90's and early 2000's was the glory days for shortstops. Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Nomar Garciaparra were the big three. A-rod the stat monster. Garciaparra the entertainer. Jeter the winner. Wilt Chamberlin, Doctor J and Bill Russell seem to be fair NBA comparisons.

#ShotsFrday 4/27

Much fewer puns in this weeks post. Judge failed 3 people. @Lele670 did get a homer out of Giancarlo Stanton. This is the first home run for both @lele670 and Stanton. Put myself in the enviable position of 3 picks last week and 2 hit. Both Javier Biaz and Kyle Schwarber went deep for me to get me up to 4 on the year and 1 for each of them. I am excited to watch the over performing Blue Jays face the Rangers who look to have some fun players this year. My picks for tonight are Joey Gallo with a G. Shin Soo-Choo and Nomar Maraza. Enjoy your favorite work appropriate beverage even though work is all but over. Career Charted: Second Base

This had a shocking result for me how much Roberto Alomar monopolized the votes. The tribe has spoken against Jeff Kent with 0 votes. Craig Biggio was the person I expected to get the most votes. It turned out Alomar got 6 and Knoblauch got 2. Chuck I expected to get some love and I will cover below.

Alomar had nothing memorable during his time in San Diego. He was the son of Sandy Alomar Sr and brother of Sandy Alomar Jr. He is easily the most talented of the Alomar crew. He would move over to Toronto after 3 seasons and that is where his career starts to pick up. By 1992 Roberto Alomar would become a great #2 hitter on a World Series winning team. He would start racking up the hardware with his first of 10 Gold Gloves.

#ShotsFriday April 20th

Things are heating up this season. @Piatz1019 extended his streak to 2 weeks with Cody Bellinger going deep after a friendly reminder. To make the competition a little bit more interesting I tied him by having George Springer go deep twice for me last Friday.

I am interested in watching the game in the Mile High Stadium tonight. I am going with 3 Cubs to smoke a ball into the seats tonight against a struggling Jon Gray with his +6 ERA. I am going with Javier Biaz, Kyle Schwarber and Kris Bryant as my 3 picks for tonight.

Career Charted

We actually had a tie this week with 4 votes each for both Jeff Bagwell and Frank Thomas. I decided to make 2 cards for each player. I picked the 4 most interesting years (2 for each) for each of these players.

The story starts in 1990 when my beloved Red Sox traded a young, unproven first basemen for journeyman reliever Larry Andersen. The Red Sox would be Andersen's fifth team at that point in his career. He would pitch 22 regular season innings and 3 post season inning (with an ERA of 6.00). He would move on to San Diego the next year. The next year the Astros would start the athletic, weight lifting enthusiast kid at first. He would hit just shy of .300 in his first year and win Rookie of the Year.

#ShotsFriday Leaderboard

We have first blood. The only homer in our first week of #ShotsFriday was a dark horse. @Apiatz1019 pulling Carlos Gonzalez out with the way back machine. Reminder for every homer you get the week before you get an extra vote. The game I am excited for tonight is the battle of the Texans. I am taking George Springer to get out of his slump. Everyone enjoy your favorite work appropriate beverage and root for homers!

What do you want?

What Do You Want?

Coming back to this blog after our 2 year sabbatical (fancy word for ghosting) I realized the landscape for content creating has changed wildly. The variety of content able to be produced is much greater than when I left you all. What I am interested in is finding content you all want and providing it to you. This may involve new mediums like a podcast or Twitch channel. It may involve recruiting people to join our team.

My simple question is "what would excite you to see?"

There is a form below that allows me to compile feed back easily.

What content would you like to see during the 2018 season?

#ShotsFriday rules

#ShotsFriday Rules

Welcome to everyone's favorite Twitter game about picking players who hit homers. The rules are simple. Follow me on Twitter. @MLBShowdownGuru and I will post the link to the Google Form to submit an guess of which MLB player will homer for the Friday games. The rules are simple.

  • Submissions must be made before games start.

  • Everyone gets default 1 selection per week.

  • Your first submission is the one I record You can change you submission if it turns out a player is not starting.

  • Re-submissions must be made before the game starts. If your player homers you get a point.

  • You get an additional pick for each point you got the previous week.

  • We have a bonus round for the Home Run Derby.

After your selection enjoy your favorite work appropriate beverage and try not to be distracted thinking of baseball all day!

I will publish results here.
